Jonah had his first doctor's appointment today. Everything went well and his doctor said he is doing great. He now weighs 8 lbs 5 oz! He definitely has his father's stomache, it's bottomless! He is staying awake for longer periods of time and always seems to be smiling when he's awake. He's still adjusting to the concept of night and day. Some nights he does really well and other nights he wants to wake up at 3:30 am and stay up for several hours. He is getting better!

I would say that 90% of the visitors that we have had haven't been able to see his pretty eyes.
Jonah is right at home laying on my chest.
Today Jenna and I took Jonah to the school to see my students. I had told them that I would bring him by before the end of school and they've been bugging my sub since I left about when I was coming in. Tomorrow is the last day of school so I figured I better live up to my promise! He was great while we were there, he slept the whole time.
After we left the school we ran to the hospital to have his weight checked. He now weighs 7 lbs 12 oz. When I took him on Friday for our check up he weighed 7 lbs 3 oz. I feel really good knowing that he is eating well and gaining weight.

On Friday Jonah and I were taken to the hospital for a check-up by the nurses by my dad. Our hospital has a free program where they check out mom and baby a few days after their release. Everything went well during our check-up. I also had an appointment with my doctor to check the incision. He thought it looked a little red so he gave me an antibiotic to prevent a possible infection.
I am feeling much better. I am getting around a lot better and it doesn't take me near as long to get up out of bed. I feel like I am almost walking at a normal pace! Jarrett and I got a new car yesterday. We realized a few weeks ago that the car seat just barely fit in the Focus and the stroller didn't fit at all. Jarrett's dad helped us find a great deal on a 2006 Ford Taurus. It is a light green color with gray leather seats and a moonroof. Jarrett brought it home on Friday for me to "test drive." I sat in the driver's seat and pretended to drive it. The car seat and stroller fit much better!

We were able to come home yesterday around 1:30! We are all happy to be home and are attempting to adjust to life with a baby. Last night Jonah fed twice but decided to stay awake between the feedings. Jarrett was kind enough to let me sleep during that time. Today Jonah has been eating so well. I don't have to beg him to stay awake during feedings and he usually eats the whole time. I am trying not to overdue it but I probably do more than I should.

Jonah is continuing to improve. Last night his blood sugar was 87, so if it stays regular he will be off his IV soon. My doctor said I could go home tomorrow. Jonah's pediatrician said he should be able to go home either tomorrow or Wednesday, it just depends on how he is doing. I can tell he is feeling better though. He has really caught on to nursing and he has been feeding well today. I am also doing much better. I am getting around really well now and I am not quite so sore every time I get up. Jarrett has completely taken on the roll of the proud father. He picks Jonah up like a pro and has the diaper changing down to a science! I had a wonderful first Mother's Day. Jarrett brought a beautiful bouquet of flowers and surprised me with a gorgeous ring and necklace set, with Jonah's birthstone. We are both anxious to get home but are enjoying the recovery period.

Around 1:00 am Friday I was dialated at 10 cm. The family rushed back to the hospital to be with me. Around 2 or 2:30 am I began to start pushing. I pushed for about 2 hours, but the baby couldn't get any closer than 2 in away. The doctor came in and said more than likely the baby wouldn't fit through. I was so exhausted that I was perfectly fine with a C-section. Around 4:45 I was taken to surgery and Jarrett came up at 4:55. Jonah Elias Richards was born at 5:18 am May 12 weighing 7 lbs and 11 oz, measuring 20 3/4 in long. I am recovering quite well. I can now eat pudding and pee on my own!! I was able to breast feed him and he did well the first time. He did have low sugar, so he is now hooked up to an IV. We hope he will be taken off that today, we will see what the doctor says. Jonah has been very good and content. He is easy to calm down when he starts to whimper. Jarrett was successful in changing Jonah's diaper. It was his very first time ever changing one and with a little assistance he did just fine! I have been up walking around a little, so that is helping the recovery. I will keep you updated with how things are going as the days go on! We hope to be home soon!!

Things are going slowly right now. I was getting crabby and irritable with people, so I kicked everyone out again. I finally asked for some medicine. I received the epideral around 3:30, so that is making things a little more comfortable. I am about 4 cm at this point. I try to sleep when I can, but there is something always waking me up. Jarrett went home to shower and maybe rest for a little. Mom and dad and Jenna are here helping me. Jenna has been an AMAZING coach as well!

I have dilated to 2 cm now and the doctor just broke my water. Jarrett has been great throughout. He is a pro about unhooking and hooking up the wires so I can go to the bathroom. He even kicked out our mothers earlier so I could get some sleep. What a guy!

The doctor took our the cervadil at 10 pm last night. This morning around 6:30 the pitocin was started. I am dialated 1 1/2 to 2 cm. Things are going well. The doctor will be in around 7 or so to check on the progress.

I went for my last doctors visit today. The doctor said because the protein in my urine was so high he wanted me to go into the hospital tonight. The doctor inserted cervadil (spelling!) and then tomorrow morning will start the pitocin. It is a wait and see kind of situation at this point.

We went to the doctor today for what I had hoped to be our last appointment. He did an exam and told us I was barely dilated and the baby wasn't even positioned in my pelvis. He gave us the option of being induced right then or waiting until a week after the baby is due (May 12) in hopes of labor starting on its own. After talking with him we decided to wait. He told us that either way we may end up with a c-section because of the size of the baby and the size of me. So unless I go into labor on my own, I will be induced May 12.
We had our last prenatal class on Monday, so we should be ready for anything! Yeah, right! Jarrett did tell me the other day that he is ready for the baby so maybe that will persuade the little guy to come out. I am still enjoying my time off from work. I am trying to get rested up and it is nice that Jenna is living with us this month until she moves into her apartment June 1. She is helping me with the cleaning (especially the tub because for some reason I can't quite reach the back very well) and cooking.
