Playing Catch

Jonah has figured out how to catch a ball. Monday during therapy we were playing with his ball and he put his hands out and caught it. Today he was playing with my dad and I and just kept catching it. He thought that was pretty cool stuff.

Crawling!

Jonah decided to do a little army crawl early this afternoon before his nap.  After his nap, he decided to do a little full fledged crawling.  He isn't going super far but he is really starting to get the hang of it.  He is going a couple feet at a time and has gone a little further before as well.

More Progress!

Jonah has been making a lot of great progress in the last few weeks.  He is starting to sit up on his own from his back and he figured out how to pull himself up in his crib.  Also, he is able to get into the crawling position from his belly and while sitting up.  He is walking nonstop in his pony walker (see previous post).  Finally, he is sleeping better and I am hoping to get him sleeping through the night this summer.  Thanks for your continued prayers; we are so blessed that Jonah is doing so well!

New Walker

Jonah got a new walker to help with his therapy.  It is called a pony walker and has a running pony on the bottom; Jarrett loves that!  Jonah is loving being able to walk around by himself.  Jarrett spent just about all day Saturday outside with him walking the streets around our house.  He is making up for a lot of lost time on his feet.  He is starting to get more balance on his own and we are actually able to walk him around one-handed now too.  His new walker is similar to an infant walker but is more age appropriate for an almost 2 year old.  He can still sit down when he is tired and he is strapped in by velcro in the back.

Spring Break 09, Part 2

Getting buried in the sand
Working on our tans

Having dinner at the Rainforest Cafe in Downtown Disney

Jonah wasn't overly thrilled with the water at the beach, I think it was too cold for him. He also wasn't super excited about the sand initially as well but after trying a bite and putting his hand in it a bit, he really started playing in it. He liked walking on the beach and in the wet sand where the water came up a little bit. He definitely didn't like it when the waves splashed up on his legs.

Playing at the park in Celebration, Florida with Aunt Jenna
At Clearwater Beach

Playing in the pool at Papa and Gramma's

Papa was showing Jonah his impression of a monkey and Jonah didn't quite know what to think of it. We spent a day at the Central Florida Zoo in Sanford and Jonah loved it.

EEG Update

Jonah's EEG came back normal which is a great blessing. However, that leads us to believe that his sleep problems are a behavior related. I guess we are going to have to get mean! Once they took the electrodes off and washed the glue out Jonah's hair was still pretty sticky and crazy. We waited almost an hour after they took everything off to be released. Luckily, there was a great toy room on our floor that we could explore to kill some time. Jonah loved playing in the car. Jonah and all the electrodes before they took them off. He had glue stuck in his hair for days, I finally had to cut several pieces out of his hair. Despite everything, he was a real trooper.

Video EEG

We are currently at Peyton Manning Children's Hospital with Jonah having a Video EEG. Jonah is still getting up on average 2x a night so we are having the sleep study done to rule out seizure type activity, night terrors, etc. He is doing pretty good so far but it is just the beginning of a 24 hour process.

Therapy Update

Jonah is continuing to make progress in therapy. He is sitting up wonderfully but still really enjoys laying on his back. As a group (Dennis, Holly, Jarrett, Trish, and I) are trying to keep Jonah motivated to stay up so we got out his Elmo walker again. We had originally put it up so Jonah didn't develop bad habits - per his therapists. However, it is back out and Jonah is loving it! It didn't take him long to start moving forward in it and now he zips around the house pretty quickly and easily. Hopefully the video I have downloaded will work.

Jonah has also started speech therapy once a week. He has taken a little longer to get used to his new therapist. . .he has really been testing her. However, they seem to be hitting it off a little better now.

Jonah is having a nightime video EEG on March 5 and 6 to check his sleep. As most of you know, he is getting up at night several times and it is beginning to wear Jarrett and I pretty thin. We have been tracking his sleep on a sleep chart and he started taking melatonin (supplement to help with maintaining sleep) but we haven't seen much of a difference. His doctor in Indy recommended that we do this to see if we can figure out the cause. We will keep everyone updated on the results and hopefully all of us will be getting uninterrupted nights of sleep.

Christmas Travels, Part 2

We also spent part of Christmas break in Pennsylvania. Jonah decided that he was a "big boy" and didn't want to drink from his sippy cup. He actually did pretty well holding the cup and drinking from it by himself.
We were lucky to have most of the family together to celebrate Christmas. We had a fun time talking and catching up with each other.
It was nice being able to spend some extra time with Grandma and Grandpa Mook. Jonah had a good time playing in the cupboards in the kitchen and watching cartoons with Grandma.

While we were in Pennsylvania, I was able to catch up with my long-time best friend, Sonya and her daughter Makayla. This was the first time the two of us had seen each other since the kids were born so it was wonderful to spend some time together. Makayla looks a little unsure of Jonah, while he is having a grand time!

Christmas Travels, Part 1

The day after Christmas we traveled to Cinncinati to have Christmas with the Platt side of the family. Aunt Debbie was generous enough to host once again. Poor Jonah wasn't feeling too well most of the time (getting teeth) but did enjoy playing with the musical Santa. Michaela was great about pushing the button on Santa so they could hear him sing. Everyone had a great time!

All the cousins, except Nicole and Shannon, who hadn't arrived yet

Jonah discovered the stairs at Aunt Debbie's and spent quite a bit of time going up and going down. What great exercise for him and Pap!

Christmas

Always a ready smile for the camera! Jonah is such a ham!
Jonah got lots of great presents on Christmas. One thing he got was a music table that he can stand at and play with. He loves pretending to talk on the phone that is with it.

Jonah also got TONS of new clothes. Mommy and Daddy are really excited about that because Mr. Jonah is growing super fast!

Jonah loved his Elmo computer from Aunt Jenna. His face lit up when he saw it and he started pushing buttons immediately. He has played with one in the store so I know he recognized it.

One of Jonah's favorite new toys is a HUGE pop-up tent that can be either a school bus or a fire truck. Grandpa and Grandma Richards got this for him and we couldn't get him out of it on Christmas Day. He loved playing in it. It is about 6 ft. long and 4 ft. wide.

Everyone had a great time playing in his tent, even Tiffer.

On Christmas Eve, Jonah and Aunt Jenna were taking advantage of some free time to enjoy a good book. I love the look on Jonah's face...he is really concentrating on his book. He makes his Mom proud!
